“You spoke, and we listened. We are keeping Profiles. Thank you for all the calls and emails telling us how important Profiles are.”This is incredible news, as well as a big win for the internet community. Many times companies and studios decide to get rid of something, whether it is a TV show or a feature we like. There is often a letter writing campaign or internet uproar, but most of the time they fall on deaf ears.
If you haven’t heard yet, the Netflix profile feature is going away. To put it simply; Netflix is screwing over their heavy users. With the growing adoption of online rentals, steaming, and digital downloads on demand, one would think Netflix would be adding more features, not taking them away. I can already download high def movies on my Xbox360, and now I am strongly considering picking up an AppleTV. Up until this point I have not been that interested in using these other services, as I have been extremely satisfied with the Netflix service, that is until now.
Strong title for my strong feelings. The watch it now feature has been festering inside me for a long time, but it has just finally reached boiling point.
Before I get into my rant let me first sing the praises of Netflix so you can see my perspective. I have been a Netflix subscriber for almost 2 years now. Not once in my 2 year history have I even thought about switching to Blockbuster or other movies by mail offerings. Now that I get Blu-Ray movies for no additional charge makes me even more happy. I typically ask my wife as soon as I get home, “did my Netflix movie arrive yet”? It really is the best service out there for online movie rentals.
