“Discover hotspots to meet likeminded people” SpotScovery is currently in private beta, but I thought I’d show you some of the initial designs and implementations.

What is Spotscovery?

Spotscovery gives personalized up-to-date recommendations of hotspots to meet people who share your interests. It is a great way to navigate a city for places with potential dating prospects, new friends, and networking opportunities.

What Problem does Spotscovery address?

Primarily, Spotscovery is geared for singles looking to mingle. With so many social outlets (especially in big cities), the challenge is often finding the best places to meet singles who are like-minded.
Beyond dating, Spotscovery can help people address the general challenge of finding places to meet people who share their interests (sports, political views, professional skills, etc).

How does Spotscovery Work?

Spotscovery learns the user’s behavior over time, and continually builds a ‘personality profile’ of the user. By analyzing the social patterns of other local users with similar ‘personality profiles,’ the system is able to make recommendations for current/upcoming hotspots. The more the system is used, the better the recommendations become.

What are some use-cases of Spotscovery?

Find weekend hangout spots based on Spotscovery recommendations.
Browse user accounts to find prospective dates (as done on a standard dating site).
Explore past/present weekly trends of hotspots.
Finding out ‘who’ may be attending a specific hotspot.

Chris Coyer “da css man” wrote a great post over the moving line navigation. Hey guess what? I use something very simulator on my site except I opted for a static width of the highlight. Anyway it’s a pretty sweet and very easy to understand.

True Sign Up Onsite

I did this project at Metric Interactive for True.com. True wanted new sign up pages but they had to keep some of the site characteristics. I came up with several designs and actually one of these over took the best performer of all time. I was super excited about that.

jQuery & JavaScript

More and more jQuery. Even though I spend a good portion of the day coding in Flash, I am more interested in what can be accomplished with JavaScript without resorting to Flash.

XHTML & CSS

I can wait until all browsers support CSS3, but untill then we’ll settle for the browsers running WebKit.

I wish I could run the world on PHP!

Great WordPress tutorials here. Most of these I already use, but I always read a new tutorial to see if I could be doing it better.

There is a little bit of everything here and if you are a web developer it will come in handy. If you are not into jQuery skip this first section, as I have been really digging into what can be done in jQuery. jQuery & JavaScript

If you couldn’t tell, I love working with jQuery. Here is a brief list of some plug ins, some tutorials, and some techniques I found very interesting.

XHTML & CSS

I started diving more into PHP due to the amount of websites I have deployed using WordPress. Since I typically use WordPress as a CMS, PHP is an integral part of making everything work. Check these out.

I heart WordPress, and can’t wait till version 2.7 is released. Here are some great plug ins as well as some techniques to use when creating a WordPress theme for yourself and others.

Flash & Fireworks
